What if the way we think about tithes, offerings, and fellowship has been missing a deeper, richer dimension all along? In Deuteronomy 12 and 14, we discover that giving to God was never meant to be a solemn, transactional duty. It was designed to be a celebration. God instructed His people to bring their tithes and offerings to the place He designated, and then to eat, drink, and rejoice in His presence together with their families, their neighbors, and even the most vulnerable among them. This passage challenges the modern tendency to separate the spiritual from the physical, as if worship belongs in one category and a shared meal belongs in another. The truth is, God wove them together intentionally. When we gather around a table and break bread with one another, we are not stepping out of His presence. We are stepping further into it. The question this raises for our own faith journey is simple, yet profound: are we missing moments of genuine communion with God because we have drawn too sharp a line between what feels sacred and what feels ordinary?
